Detailed Gem Description:

A natural and untreated corundum (sapphire) with a dominant Orange hue, a medium to medium light tone, and moderately strong saturation. Inclusions are visible without magnification. This sapphire features an intense color shift in daylight from a dominant Orange hue to a dominant Green hue with off center viewing. This is an open-tone sapphire, it will glow and sparkle in any lighting!

This sapphire took me by surprise, it has a very intense color shift in daylight. The video camera for whatever reason depicts the dominant color as being pink/purplish but, to the human eye it is a dominant Orange hue with pink/purple being a subtle secondary color only visible in daylight. The secondary orange color visible in the photos will be the dominant color to the human eye.  In daylight, If you view this gem off-center (look at it one inch to the left or right) the entire body color turns from orange to a shade of moss green. It is an intense color shift. Unfortunately, the video camera's sensor isn't able to depict this. My full-frame camera was able to capture the green and the orange but not depict the color shift as the green won't be dominant if you look at it directly. The color shift wasn't very noticeable in artificial lighting, in fact, I didn't notice it at all until I went outside. It is awe-inspiring. Some typical inclusions are visible, but this gem will impress any sapphire enthusiast considering the color mix and color shift in daylight.

See the last graphic for reference on how I graded these. To maintain originality, I made the reference graphics with gems of my own design but it is based on GIA's color description system.

Photos were taken in daylight with a blue sky and the sun overhead. The first four (4) videos were taken in daylight under a blue sky with the sun overhead. Scenes from the fourth video were taken indoors in passive lighting and under my overhead LED lights. The fifth video was taken near sundown with a partly cloudy sky overhead.   Please review all the videos thoroughly.

• Microscopy Report:
This gem features multiple rose channels (hollow tubes) that span the gem lengthwise. Also notable were a cluster of negative crystals at one end of the oval and multiple small partially healed fissures. Also visible under a very bright light was a cluster of rutile silk. Upon close up examination of the rutile silk I determined that this sapphire has not undergone heat treatment to enhance its appearance. I was not able to reach a definitive conclusion on the origin of the color shift, I speculate it is in part due to dichroism. The uncut sapphire had both orange and green visible from one axis. The color shift is very dominant in daylight with off center viewing.
