This is gorgeous larger sized garnet. It is Reddish purple in hue with a medium - medium dark tone and strong saturation. The tone isn't overly dark so the color and facets are still open in low lighting. This gem has some platelet inclusions and rutile needle inclusions visible under magnification. This gem should please any garnet connoisseur. This garnet is technically coined as "Umbalite" which refers to a garnet that is a mix of pyrope, almandine and spessartite, however, I do not have a RAMAN spectrometer to test the exact percentages of each variety in this gem and by appearance I can speculate that it is a pyrope and almandine dominant mixture which is rhodolite garnet by definition.
