• Detailed Gem Description:
A natural and untreated corundum (sapphire) with a dominant blue hue, a medium-light tone, and slightly grayish saturation. Inclusions are visible without magnification. This is an open-tone gem, it will glow and sparkle in any light! It is a gleaming gem with all of the microscopic geologic indicators of untreated sapphire from the Umba Valley.
• Microscopy Report:
This gem features multiple inclusions that are typical of corundum from the Umba Valley. Most notable are the elongated rutile needles (photos 1 & 2). What I believe to be feldspar inclusions, they look like crispy clouds (photos 3 & 4). A few partially healed stress planes (photo 5). It also features fine rutile needles (photo 6). The crisp nature of the rutile inclusions is an indicator that this sapphire has not undergone any treatment to improve its color or clarity. I used the Photoatlas of Inclusions volume 1 by EJ Gübelin and JI Koivula for reference.
Photos and videos were taken outdoors under a partly cloudy sky with the sun peeking through the clouds near the horizon, additional videos were taken indoors under my overhead led lights.
