Gemstone Rough Country of Origin: Kenya
My student Leah Acosta faceted this gem in her workshop in Eagle Nest, New Mexico!
Gemological Description: A natural untreated corundum (sapphire) that is is greenish blue with a dark tone and strong saturation. Imperfections are visible
*This is a dark toned gem, in low lighting or high contrast lighting (like a sunny day) it will appear opaque blue with occasional flashes of blue and green. Under a direct light (like your desk lamp, overhead light or direct sunlight) it opens up to an electric blue green gem with a dominant blue in daylight and subtle parti under your desk lamp. Bright low contrast light (like outside on an overcast day) is the best lighting to view this gem, it naturally glows under this type of light.
Photos and videos were taken outside on an overcast day, additional indoor videos under my led desk lamp and under the overhead led lights in my office.
